What is Self-hypnosis?

I’ve been sitting at my desk with the single task of writing this blog and have managed to distract myself for 4 hours with everything but. I’ve checked Instagram 100 times, updated some code on my website, listened to some old coaching recordings, ate lunch, threw a squeaky toy for Pepper, watered my plants… but it took me this long to get to the task. Can you relate?

Some days I’m motivated, and some days I’m not. And that’s ok. Yesterday I did everything on my list and then some. My batteries were fully charged from weekend rest and an epic breathwork session with my friend Lauri.

But today my mind is reeling from the election results and a shot of imposter syndrome. Even though I should, it’s hard to honor the need for rest. That’s especially difficult for those of us who run our own businesses. Stop working on a Wednesday?! Girl, get your sh!t together!

But I know enough to recognize the need to pause, even if it’s just closing my eyes for one minute to check in with my inner voice. Inspiration does not visit an agitated mind.

If you are feeling all over the place, try this simple exercise:

😌 Close your eyes and take a deep breath into your belly.
😚 Exhale deeply and slowly, see how many thoughts and how much tension you can release from your body and mind.
🧘🏽 Continue breathing deeply while counting backwards from 10 to 1. After each number, say to yourself, “I am going deeper and deeper.”
🤔 When you get to 1, ask yourself what it is that you need. Take some time to listen.

Beautiful. You’ve just experienced self-hypnosis. It’s that simple. (And no, you’re not asleep or making animal noises or any of the ridiculous stereotypes that tv and movies have perpetuated about hypnosis.) All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and all hypnosis is consensual.

If you would like to go even deeper and discover how hypnosis can help you reduce stress, ease discomfort, release negative mindset, or gain confidence, I’d love to be your guide. Schedule a free 15 minute consultation or join my newsletter to be notified of upcoming workshops.
