Is business slowing down in 2023?

How are you doing this quarter? I mean how are you really doing? A lot of people are talking about the economy and slower business right now, but is that really the case? This one might hit some nerves… 

Last week I told my husband I was having a mini existential crisis (this kind of self-induced drama is biannual clockwork for me 😂). I had a slow April and therefore decided to panic and question all of my life’s decisions.

Sound familiar? Less than 24 hours after that conversation I more than doubled the previous month’s income. Summer vacation, back on!? 🙃

When speaking with two clients this week, both in a similar simmer towards scarcity narratives, one soon recalled that she’s currently on a week-long assignment for one of the biggest media companies in the world. And I reminded the other that she is booked out June through October (!) on a tropical island shoot! (You know who you are, you bad b*tches.)

For those of us who are entrepreneurs and freelancers, this is the financial roller coaster ride we chose and we have to continually to question the truth of our ruminations. Our minds love to make up tragic future outcomes (ok, that should be a band name). Additionally, when we hear that other people are not doing well, for most of us, a part of our subconscious wants to commiserate and believe the same for ourselves. 🛑

What if maybe we’re doing fine? Maybe April just sucked (#EclipseSeason).

And if your bank account wants to argue otherwise, what action are you going to take to turn things around? Hint: sitting around talking about what’s not working is not going to change the vibe.
